Kaskade debuted his seventh studio album, Fire & Ice, on October 25th with Ultra Records. The CD includes hit singles 'Eyes', 'Turn It Down' and 'Lessons in Love' and debuted at #17 on the Billboard Top 200. All in all, a killer album, and remixes are sure to come (keeping my fingers crossed for something by Dada Life).
3LAU is another mashup artist. But after hearing his remix/mashup of Porter Robinson's 'Unsion', I was intrigued. Sure, mashup artists are a dime a dozen, and these days any frat bro who thinks himself a DJ can throw some Britney vocals over 'Ghosts n Stuff' with no trouble. But this guy is getting creative, mixing dubstep with nu disco, pop, rap and everything in between. Also, his album is free to download from his website - it don't get any cheaper than that. Thinking his name is pronounced Blau...but who knows. That one DJ is pronounced Deadmau-five right?

This is the fifth year running of Hard's biggest festival, and boasts a killer lineup. This two night event is 18+, and will have you raging from 5:30 until 2:00 AM both Friday and Saturday. You wouldn't think that Coldplay and Dj's would come together like Bill and Monica. When people are hammed at a club or rave, in most cases they aren't concerned with reflecting on the more sensitive aspects of life generally evinced by Chris Martin's lyrics. That said, he is a great singer, and as the release of Coldplay's newest album draws closer (October 25th), the biggest producers in the electronic world are remixing left and right. The Avicii remix of 'Every Teardrop is a Waterfall' came out just a few weeks ago, and Fedde le Grand's remix of 'Paradise' premiered last Friday on Pete Tong's show. Example likes good remixes. I like good remixes. In the same vein as the Doctor P remix of Example's 'Last Ones Standing', Flux Pavilion has wrecked his new track 'Midnight Run'. Wrecked meaning turned it into a heavy hitting, electro-toxic tune with Example's killer vocals.
Alesso has blown onto the scene so fast and hard it would make Pamela Anderson jealous. After his hit remix of Dúne's 'Heiress Of Valentina' at the end of last year, he released a remix of Nadia Ali, Starkillers & Alex Kenji - 'Pressure', and now this, 'River Flows in You'. At only 19 year old, he joins the ranks of young DJ's like Porter Robinson (19) and Netsky (20). Porter Robinson's new track 'Spitfire' hits hard, and since he is currently on tour with Tiesto, it was necessary to post a recent Tiesto track as well.
This track was chosen by the Swedish House Mafia as the record of the week when they sat in for Pete Tong recently. Dirty South is a Serbian-born Australian, signed on Axwell's label Axtone Records. His 2010 track 'Phazing' garnered lots of attention, and with the release of this song, plan to be seeing a lot more of the dirty Serbian/Australian DJ. Excuse the shouting Swedes in the beginning of the song - it hasn't been officially released yet so we'll have to make do with this recording for now.
Kaskade - straightforward, to the point, 4/4 house beats with melodic, euphoric vocals. The paradigm of big room euphoric house music. He has become known as the American pioneer of house, bringing it back to the musical forefront in the States. He grew up near Chicago, at the heart of house origins and began producing at a young age. Fun fact: Kaskade is a devout Mormon. Even more fun (well, probably less fun) fact: Kaskade has never had a drink of alcohol in his life (Source). Whatever he's doing, it's working. This song more or less encapsulates my thoughts on drinking. And by more or less, I mean completely and utterly. It's Friday night, it's time to crack a beer, a red bull, or an apple-fucking-tini if you need to. On a non-alcoholic note, this song has a killer, downbeat drumloop paired with melodic vocals and makes for a great Friday night warmup track.
Okay, I admit, Dada Life might be a little crazy. Sure, they look like they have down's syndrome in most of their pictures, and yeah, they throw more bananas than cocaine addled monkeys, but their songs and mixes hit hard. When I say hits hard, I mean like Chris Brown vs. Rihanna hits hard. Too soon? Nah. This mix is full of massive tracks from Wolfgang Gartner, Chuckie, Avicii and more.
